The number on a compressor is usually measured at a warm, humid laboratory point. Your flat, your utility room and your drying rack are cooler than that, so that’s the question: which machine still pulls water out in the rooms you actually have.

The litre figure is a laboratory maximum

Meaco, unusually, publishes extraction at several temperatures. The Arete One 10 L is 10.42 litres per day at 30 °C and 80 % relative humidity, and that’s the carton headline. At 20 °C and 60 % RH, closer to a heated British living room, the same table is 4.34 litres. At 10 °C and 60 % RH it’s 1.41 litres. That’s why we wouldn’t rank a machine by the carton litre figure.

A compressor still needs a room that’s roughly 5 °C or warmer. A desiccant such as the EcoAir DD1 Simple MK3 is rated at 7.5 litres at 20 °C / 60 % RH. It will run from about 1 °C, which is your unheated utility. Laundry mode keeps a compressor pulling moisture next to an airer. It doesn’t turn the room into a tumble dryer.
